FINE ART PHOTOGRAPH OF THE WEEK: WAILUA FALLS, MAUI

©Kelly Fitzgerald.  Wailua Falls, Maui
Silver Gelatin Archival Fiber Base Print
20" H x 16" W
Limited Edition of 50
Price: $1,000 USD

No trip to Maui is complete until you’ve been on the "Road to Hana".  Experience one of the most scenic drives on earth where every turn offers an even more amazing view than the last.  Complete with more than 615 curves, the road to Hana stretches all the way from Kahului Maui to Hana town and offers amazing scenery the whole way through. From this incredible roadway, see black sand beaches, great views of the Pacific Ocean, spectacular waterfalls such as Wailua Falls and beautiful green landscapes.

Professional framing is available for an additional charge.

This work was created by using an old manual SLR film camera and Kodak Professional High-Speed HIE Black-and-White Infrared Negative Film.  Sadly, the film is no longer being manufactured.  The traditional negative is scanned on a drum scanner to create a 300 megabyte digital file which serves as a vehicle for the tonal balancing, lighting, and darkening that was formerly done in the darkroom.  Once the aesthetic interpretation is realized in the computer and matched with the artist proof print created in the traditional "wet" darkroom, the image is then printed on fully archival silver gelatin fiber base paper.  This piece is part of an award-winning series called "A New Discovery".

FINE ART PHOTOGRAPH OF THE WEEK: IL CORRIDOIO, ITALY

©Kelly Fitzgerald.  Il Corridoio, Italy
Archival Pigment Ink Print
20" H x 16" W
Limited Edition of 20
Price: $600 USD

The images of Italy that I captured on film, encompass a myriad of locations, many constructed hundreds of years ago.  By photographing these crumbling stone facades and archaic landscapes, I hope to transport my audience to the past and allow them to mentally experience walking on the roads where a vast ancient empire once stood.

Professional framing is available for an additional charge.

FINE ART PHOTOGRAPH OF THE WEEK: WAIANAE COAST - I, O'AHU

©Kelly Fitzgerald.  Waianae Coast - I, O'ahu
Archival Pigment Ink Print
20" H x 24" W
Limited Edition of 5
Price: $950 USD

O'ahu's Leeward or Waianae Coast remains largely undiscovered by the vast majority of tourists to the island. Polynesians arrived here to fish its teeming waters. They named Waianae for the abundance – Wai for "water" (or rich) and anae for the prized mullet fish. O'ahu's Waianae Coast is known for having some of the State's most beautiful panoramas, brilliant sunsets, and excellent underwater sporting.

Development is relatively low density in the "other O'ahu", and there are still many small farms typical of an agricultural village. Waianae is historically known and infamous as a fishing village due to productive ocean waters. Predominant features are the longest white sand beaches on O'ahu, amphitheater valleys and dramatic volcanic mountains.

Professional framing is available for an additional charge.

This work was created by using an old medium format film camera and Kodak Professional Plus-X 125 Black-and-White Film.  Sadly, the 120mm film size is no longer being manufactured.  The traditional negative is scanned on a drum scanner to create a 300 megabyte digital file which serves as a vehicle for the tonal balancing, lighting, and darkening that was formerly done in the darkroom.  Once the aesthetic interpretation is realized in the computer and matched with the artist proof print created in the traditional "wet" darkroom, the image is then printed as a warmed toned archival pigment ink print.  This piece is part of The Hawai'i Series.
